We sell a wide range of handmade crafts, jewellery, textiles, interior furnishings, furniture, toys, clothing, ceramics, handmade paper products, cards, books and foods; a lot of our products are also organic. We currently operate two shops - one in Glasgow and one in Edinburgh and sell a small range of products through our online shop. We also support schools, faith communities and local businesses in adopting and promoting fair trade.

Afghan Slipper Socks

E-mail Print PDF

These socks are hand knitted by Afghan women, many of them war widows in and around Kabul.  They are made from 70% wool and 30% rayon.  Leather soles are then hand stitched to the bottom to give them a long lasting warm slipper sock.

They are knitted by women who belong to a small Fair Trade co-operative set up about seven years ago. The women get a good and fair wage which goes directly to them, and they get advice and help with education and health.  A percentage of the profit of the socks sold in this country is donated to charities in Afghanistan.

The socks come in totally assorted colours and 4 sizes (small approx UK 3-5, medium approx UK 5-7, large approx UK 7-9, x-large approx UK 9-11). Available in Edinburgh and Glasgow shops - and always sell out quickly!

Karm Marg

Childrens Home and Workshop in Faridabad, India

Please Support our Producers
Karm Marg literally means the 'Path of Action' and began with a handful of run-away and homeless children living on the railway station in New Delhi. With the help of a social worker, they began to change their lives by operating a small kitchen on the street to prepare free food for children there. Karm Marg quickly grew and established a home for about 60 disadvantaged children on farm land in Faridabad, outside New Delhi.karmmarg Alongside the home, there are all kinds of activities and programmes for the children and young adults such as vocational training, medical care, counseling, sports, visual and performing arts. There are workshops on paper craft, stitching, candle-making, carpentry, metal-work, silk-screen printing and clay modelling. One World Shop sells bags that are designed and made in the stitching workshop, providing valuable income for the young adults who work there.

Our Business Manager Rachel visited Karm Marg in 2008 during a producer tour...

"After a puppet show and a delicious meal together we looked around the site and met the young girls in the stitching workshops who made the bags that we now sell. I was left with the firm impression that they really needed as many orders as we could give them and they would make every penny go far in order to support the place for future young and homeless children.”
