We are a fair trade shop

One World Shop sells products that are made slowly and well, over cheap and trendy. It’s really important to us to provide a space for these products and to keep supporting industries that are slowly being diminished by the culture of consumerism and capitalism.

Our shop in Edinburgh has a few staff members, supported on a daily basis by a team of shop volunteers.

We choose to sell ethically produced, sustainable products; many of which are handmade using traditional techniques.

We endeavour to learn as much as possible about our products and the people that make, harvest, and package them. Sharing this information with our staff, volunteers and customers, helps people make an informed choice about their purchase and raises awareness of the global inequalities.

So, if you are interested in joining our team, and have a passion for global justice – it would really help! Either way, we will turn you into an advocate for fair trade in no time at all.

What happens next?

After we’ve received your application, we will contact you to arrange a meeting. This will give us a chance to meet each other, and go over what the volunteering will involve.

If everyone is happy moving forward, the next step is to arrange training. You’ll receive a handbook with a few tips, reminders, and expectations.

Once the initial training is complete, we will pair you up with a buddy to keep you company for your first few shifts. So, no need to worry about remembering everything you’ve learned in training – the shift becomes a lot more fun too!

Regular shifts are four hours long and include a 15-minute break. A range of refreshments is available in our staff kitchen.
