A bee bearing a bee-day cake brings gifts for the environment too! There's a little sachet of flower seeds inside each card and a tree is planted for each card bought. Wins all round!
For every card bought a tree is planted to help restore healthy forests in Nepal, Madagascar, Indonesia and Haiti, areas of mass deforestation. The restoration of these forests is achieved in partnership with the Eden Reforestation Projects and brings huge benefits where unemployment and poverty are common. Trees are a vital lifeline not just in terms of controlling air pollution; they provide a habitat for animals, purify water sources, control erosion/flooding and help to replenish nutrients into depleted soil. This in turn increases crop yields creating more food and a boost in the local economy. Through their work the Eden Projects are able to hire local people and give them a good income so they can provide for their families.
Enclosed within each card is a seed token which can be planted to grow flowers for feeding bees, vital for pollinating our food supply. Towns and cities have become much less bee-friendly with flower filled spaces being taken over by driveways and low maintenance gardens - sowing these flower seeds will help to feed our bee friends which in turn will help feed us!
