Is your school keen to be involved with fair trade?

Learning about fair trade is an excellent way to encourage students to develop an understanding of their role as a world citizen and to address Global Citizenship. It also helps them to develop respect for diversity and understand social injustice.

We run exciting activities, competitions and workshops which are aimed at understanding fair trade and to encourage students to become active learners.

Our range of services is suitable for all age groups, from Nursery to University level and tailored to suit your needs. We can also provide tea and coffee for the staff room.

Local Schools

If you're nearby, please come see us at the shop in the West End of Edinburgh, in the Cornerstone Centre at St John's (the corner of Princes St and Lothian Rd)

There is a small loading bay outside the church, just before the bus stop. This is only operational between 10am - 4pm.

Further away

We can still help you even if you're far, far away! We use a courier company that can deliver small amounts across the UK from around £6.50. Stalls will generally cost around £20 - 40 for delivery depending on the weight.

"I like running the stall as I help to support a good cause but still hang about with my friends. I enjoy the banter through running the stall."

Talk or Workshop

Our Education Co-ordinator, Rachel Farey, is a trained teacher and has 20 years experience. We can arrange the workshop or talk to suit you, whether you have 5 people or 50, at nursery, primary, secondary and university level.

Get in touch to discuss your needs and we can work out the best way to help you teach your pupils about fair trade, being a responsible global citizen and tell some fascinating stories that we have heard from our producers like Mandira & Amisha from Get Paper Industries in Nepal, seamstress Pamela L’Intelligent from Craft Aid Mauritius, and coffee farmer Jennipher Wetaka in Uganda

Some of the topics we cover are:

  • Projects run by fair trade groups all over the world such as "Send your daughter to school" project in Nepal
  • Supply chain - who gets what from the sale of a chocolate bar
  • Jute bag story from Bangladesh
  • What is fair trade and how can we get involved?

School visits cost £20 / hour including travel time and travel costs.

Shop Visit

We often have visits from schools like St Catherine's RC Primary in Gracemount (featured in the video) and Clyde Valley High School in Wishaw.

Some groups come to buy goods to stock up their tuckshop, the kids love to come and see the new items that we have in stock and choose them themselves. Other groups come in to see the products and talk to us, we can show you items from specific countries and producer groups, and discuss the challenges of running a fair trade shop so that they can run their own in school. We've also got lots of posters, flyers and info about our producers that you can have to take back to school.

We ask that you contact us before bringing a school group to visit the shop so that we can make sure we have a member of staff free to host your visit. This service is free.

Thank you so much to you and your staff for being so welcoming and encouraging to our pupils yesterday. They thoroughly enjoyed their trip, especially the jewellery and recycled vehicles. ... We look forward to continuing links with you.
