Fine glass and silver bead necklace with tree motif stamped on a silver disc pendant. The tubular silver beads are stamped with tiny flowers and are distributed singly and in sets of 3 between groups of the clear glass beads.
Made by the Karen Hill Tribe who are subsistence farmers in remote Northern Thailand and who have a strong spiritual connection with their land and nature in general. This is reflected in the traditional designs in their jewellery. The silversmithing can be fitted in around the needs of their farming and ensures that this valuable and skillful tradition is kept alive.
Thai silver is 99.9% pure, in contrast with sterling silver at 92.5% purity, and this means that it tarnishes less quickly and requires less regular polishing to retain its appeal.
