Fairly traded and rich in flavour and texture, Palestinian Za'atar is easy to use in dishes such as pilaf, risotto, and salad.
Also known as zahtar or zatar this spice blend is predominately ground sumac, toasted sesame seeds and a native variety of thyme. Za’atar is used to flavour meats and vegetables, or mixed with olive oil and used as a marinade for olives or as a spread for pitta or flatbread. The taste of a za’atar mixture can be tangy, herbal, nutty or toasty … be warned, its fresh flavour could be deliciously addictive!
Zaytoun’s za’atar is sourced from a women’s co-operative in Jenin, wild-harvested and hand mixed.
