This quirky bowl, ideal for fruit, has been made by fusing together recycled bottle tops. The tops have been smoothed off underneath so there are no sharp edges.
It comes from Noah's Ark, a fair trade business in Moradabad, Northern India. Of over 30 years' standing, Noah's Ark came into being as a response to the exploitation of Indian crafts people. Now it employs 40 people directly and in addition buys goods from more than 250 other artisans. As well as paying fair wages, this business provides education classes for over 200 local children who do not have the opportunity to go to school. Each worker is given provision for school expenses, loans for house repairs and healthcare insurance. A social worker is also employed to support the wider needs of the employees and their families and communities.
