Butterflies flutter through the tall flowers, hand-painted by a member of Silence in Calcutta.
Silence was established in 1979 as a centre for social and economic development for artists who are deaf or who have other physical challenges. It is a member of WFTO (World Fair Trade Organisation) and operates a training unit in conjunction with Jadavpur University and the government of West Bengal. Skills are developed in art and craft, commercial art, computer data entry and computer hardware maintenance. Students go on to open their own production units, gain employment in existing businesses or remain with Silence to earn their living.
